Decided we better do a little pre-kingfishing before the big tournament, so Chris, Chad, and I went out this past weekend and hit some of the closer in wrecks. Couldn't get a whole lot to happen. We had a Cobia hit one of the live baits as we were slow trolling. As we were bringing the fish in, noticed it had 2 other friends following beside him. Chris grabbed a rod a pitched a piece of bait back to one of them. Chris immediately hooked up. Boated the first fish, then tried to get the 3rd one to bite, but couldn't get him to. Ended up putting the 2nd Cobe into the boat. Picked up and ran a little farther out to some deeper water. While trolling, spotted what appeared to be a old crab float floating around. As soon as our baits went by it, the deep bait got hammered. Ended up fighting this fish for a good 15mins. with several reel smoking runs. Finally got the fish next to the boat see the big Kingfish. Got him in and put him on the scale...42lbs. Sure would have liked to had him the following weekend for the tournament.
Good day on the water. Final tally: 1 King and 2 Cobia.
Chad gets the spread put out.
Rigging a Poogie for the big one.
Craig reels in a nice fish! Ends up weighing 42 pounds...to bad it wasn't a week later when the tourney was going.
