The plan was to chase sails on the near shore wrecks (party grounds) and possible drop a few baits on the bottom. Cleared the jetties at 7 AM into a 2' Sea. We moved around to 2 or 3 places, but no luck on Sailfish. We have one fish come up and slap our teaser twice, Chris was able to snatch a bait and get it in front of him and got him to eat, but the fish threw the hook after 30 seconds.
Around noon we decided to jig up a few baits and head to our favorite inshore bottom spot. There was not another boat in sight and the fish were chewing. Our first drift produced a 24 inch snapper. We decided to anchor on the spot and promplty threw 4 more fish in the 22 to 25 inch range in the boat in less than an hour and lost a nice cobia boat side . After that we waded through a few shots, 4 small grouper, sharks, and the fatest Sea Bass on the plant. Chris recommended I put a live bait on the bottom and immediately hooked into a 26 inch Gag. Then I procedeed to get worked by 3 grouper in a row, with our heaviest rod/reel with 80# leader, I could not get the fish out of the rocks. Final tally for the day was 5 Snapper, 1 grouper and good times. We left the spot a 3 PM, Chris has to be across town by 6 for dinner, so we cut it short, with another hour of fishing we could have got our exlusive last snapper to make our limit. Grouper only wanted live bait, and Snapper only wanted whole Cigars.
