To get to the ledge in February is big feat, this time of year is known for rough seas, but also good Wahoo time. The NOAA report was calling for 2-4 with 5-10 mph winds from the East. Well, the winds were from the North at 10-15 and the Ledge was at the top end of the 2-4 and windy. The wind died down in the middle of the day, but came back around 2.
On Saturday the SST Charts showed a defined temp break to the North of Mayport, the decision was made to make the long run to the East/North in hopes of scoring big. Once we got about 40 miles out the seas built steadily. We found our Temp Break and huge weed line. It was the perfect scenario, it was alive with fish floating object and etc...everything but big Fish. We ended up breaking off 1 Wahoo due to a knot failure, put 1- 15# Mahi in the boat, and later in the day we put a 35# Wahoo in the boat. We bottom fished on some pinnacles in 180' (25' feet of relief), but nothing huge to show for it. Coming home we had the N winds hitting us on Starboard Stern, made for an long ride. When we left at 3:15 the GPS said 62 NM to the safe water buoy, long ways away.
