We'll NOAA blew it. We were expecting 'Smooth C's' for a run to the tuna grounds, but we were greeted with 3 to 4 foot TIGHT chop. The kind of seas that will jar your fillings. After we got 30 mile out we decided to fish the ledge and see if the seas laid down. After releasing 1 small dolphin on the ledge we ran on out 105 NM in search of YF. We never found the birds, not even singles. We made the tough decision to turn back in and try to salvage the day back at the ledge chasing Mahi and Wahoo. The ride back to the ledge was a lot better.
Back at the ledge we ended up with a double hookup on lures, but only got 1 of the fish in. It was a dolphin in the 10- 13 pound range. Brian gave the fish we lost a tough battle, but unfortunately he threw the hooks. We had planned to fish again on Sunday, but original predictions by NOAA was that the weather would be worse on Sunday. We all decided that we would pass on Sunday, we'd taken our beating for the week. There is always next week to catch them, the way I see it we just gave them another week to grow bigger :). By the way, NOAA blew the Sunday's weather as well...it ended up being nice and calm.
