Well...another trip that ended w/ disappointment, disbelief and an empty fish box. Myself(Craig), Chris, Chad, Brian, and Dad(Neil) set out from Mayport at 5:30am Sat. morning w/ high hopes and calm seas. Our hopes were high, seas were nice, but the fog was thick! Thinking the fog would clear as we made our distance from land, we left the inlet to only be greeted by more fog. We ended up running in the fog all the way to the ledge. Once we got into 140' of water we put our spread out and quickly settled in for the first bite. Three hours later we were still waiting for that first bite. We decided to change things up completely and as we slowed the boat down, one of the rods goes off. Chris was quick to the rod, but with out the speed of the boat, we didn't get a good hook-up and when the fish turned and headed towards the boat...out came the hook. We went ahead and made our switch but it didn't help. At 12:30 we decided to try some bottom fishing, but that was quickly put to rest after a couple of breakoffs and radar showing us to be in middle of a large storm cell. We quickly secured everything and started the run back in. We were able to watch the radar and dodge most of storm activity. We made it back to land safe and sound. This is the 2nd trip in a row that we haven’t had anything to show for.Hopefully things will turn around, and we can get this skunk off of us.
