Report:

Me (Chad), Chris, Craig, Travis, and Brett ran 100+ miles East out of St Augustine in great seas and we were able to make 37 to 40 knots the whole way out. Found our first pack of birds and all lines go down...only got two fish in the boat (twin 40#+ fish). Bite died for about an hour or so and then the bite started back.  We got on what would be our last pack of birds for the day and there had to be 60 or 70 birds in a feeding frenzy.  We actually witnessed several huge Tuna skyrocketing (Travis got a picture) on the bait fish.  Every pass produced fish with all lines always going down. This pack had several small Yellowfin, but always produced a keeper on each pass. Brett hooked onto a stud that had at least 500+ yards of line out on a 50 wide. Brett fought him for at least 20 minutes and had 3/4 of the line back when the line broke. I thought he was going to cry and pass out at the same time...it was very hot. Earlier we about lost Chris when he caught the 60# fish.  It was a brutal battle in the heat, and making matters worse is that these fish can get 400 yards of line on you in a second.

About this time we realized something wasn't right on our engines oil consumption and decided to call it a day early.  We pulled the lines in and started heading to the hill, we easily had 2 more hours of fishing left and this pack of birds was really biting well. We will have to get them next time.

We ended the day with 8 Yellowfin and kept 5.

1 just over 60 pounds, 1 at 46 pounds, 1 at 42 pounds, and 2 small ones in the low to mid twenty's. All-in-all a great day, and we will be back out there in a few weeks.

Chad

I am in the market for the 33' Palmetto and would like to hear your feedback. I understand you've had some motor issues in the past with the 300's. Have these been worked out yet? there is one with 250's I'm looking at a, 2003 and a couple other 2004 with the 300's. Thjey have me a bit scared. How do you like the boat? Handling, ride, wet, dry, fuel burn, ect. I appreciate the feedback. thanks, Joe  Posted by: Joe Boyne
